The new grading scale for GCSE Science
All of the Achieve in Science resources are designed to support the reformed GCSE qualifications which will now be awarded on a grade scale of 9 (the highest grade) to 1 (the lowest).
How does the new scale compare with old grades?
Schools have been told that in the first year the new GCSE is introduced:
- broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 4 and above as currently achieve a grade C and above.
- broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 7 and above as currently achieve a grade A and above.
- broadly the same proportion of students will achieve a grade 1 and above as currently achieve a grade G and above.
What are the other changes?
- The New GCSEs will be more challenging, with an increasing amount of Mathematics.
- There will be fewer grade 9s than there were A*s.
